Plutocracy

We're actually going to run this lede tomorrow, on a story about Teresa Heinz Kerry making a local stop to visit a women's health clinic:

Teresa Heinz Kerry probably was glad for her health insurance Saturday, when she checked into an Iowa hospital complaining of stomach pains.

According to Slate magazine, the Kerrys have a net worth of about $165 million to $626 million. In 2002 financial disclosures, John Kerry stated that assets in his own name were worth $409,000 to $1.8 million, and he had an additional $300,000 to $600,000 in assets owned jointly with his wife. That means Teresa alone is worth a good $163 million, perhaps as much as $623 million.

With that kind of bucks, you don't buy health insurance; you buy hospitals.
